Last night was the BET Awards and Mary J. Blige accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award. Rihanna had the pleasure of presenting the award with very kind words:

“You have set the bar for relatable, timeless, classic music. You have opened multiple doors for female artists in this industry. And on behalf of all the women that came after you, like myself, thank you for being you so we could feel comfortable being ourselves.”

Watch her acceptance speech below. She played on the audience’s heartstrings when she said,

“Although I am a leader, a queen, a living legend… I am a servant and I’m here to serve. Being a servant is not always glamorous or popular, but it’s the job and the assignment I was given.”,
