It's Official: Seth Meyers Will Take Over "Late Night" When Jimmy Fallon Moves to "The Tonight Show"
It's official: SETH MEYERS from "Saturday Night Live" will take over for JIMMY FALLON on "Late Night" next year . . . after Fallon moves to "The Tonight Show".
There's no premiere date for Seth's debut . . . but Fallon is taking over for JAY LENO sometime after NBC broadcasts the 2014 Winter Olympics next February. So it'll be around that time.
Obviously, Seth will have to leave "SNL" at some point, but it sounds like he's staying onboard through this coming fall. The "New York Times" says he'll leave by January to devote all his time to preparing for his new show.
"SNL" boss Lorne Michaels is the executive producer of "Late Night".
Seth joked, quote, "I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car. 12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."
By the way, there's talk that the format of "Late Night" could be changed to something similar to the "Weekend Update" segment on "SNL" . . . or Comedy Central's "The Daily Show". But nothing has been decided yet.
Seth said, quote, "I don't want to make any broad pronouncements about how the show is going to be, whether it's going to be the same or different.
"But I have to draw on my background in improvisational comedy and sketch comedy and stand-up comedy and try to find some mix of that."
Did Tommy Chong Beat Cancer With Marijuana?
Marijuana has done a lot for TOMMY CHONG over the years. But their relationship has gone to the next level . . . because this time it actually saved his life.
Tommy revealed last year that he was battling prostate cancer. And now he says he's cancer free, thanks in part to marijuana.
Tommy treated his cancer with "hash oil", which is an extract of cannabis . . . and his Canadian doctor also changed his diet and put him on supplements.
He also had a session with, quote, "a world-renowned healer [named] Adam Dreamhealer." (???)
In a post on the website Celebstoner.com, he says, quote, "That's right, I kicked cancer's ass! So the magic plant does cure cancer with the right diet and supplements . . . And now for a celebration joint of the finest Kush."
Barbara Walters Is Retiring
BARBARA WALTERS is retiring next summer. She's planning to announce it today on "The View", which is kind of redundant, because she basically announced it yesterday.
She said, quote, "I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on 'The View' and with ABC News. I created 'The View' and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it."
She added, quote, "I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain. I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women . . . and OK, some men too . . . who will be taking my place."
Back in March, there were rumors that Barbara was going to retire next summer. She went on "The View" and issued the following non-denial . . . quote, "Here I am, and I have no announcement to make.
"But I do want to say this: If and when I might have an announcement to make, I will do it in this program, I promise, and the paparazzi guys, you will be the last to know."
Barbara Walters is 83 years old. She's been working in TV journalism for over 50 years. She started as a writer and researcher for NBC's "Today" show in 1961.
