Scarlett Johansson Beat The Rock at the Box Office
SCARLETT JOHANSSON beat THE ROCK at the box office this weekend, by a pretty wide margin. "Lucy" brought in a better-than-expected $44 million, compared to just $29 million for "Hercules".
It's even more impressive when you consider the budget for the two movies: "Lucy" cost an estimated $40 million to make, which means it's already made back its entire budget . . . while "Hercules" cost $100 million, so it hasn't even made a third of that yet.
As for the other movies opening this weekend, the MICHAEL DOUGLAS movie "And So It Goes" made just over $4.5 million in 8th place . . . and PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN'S "A Most Wanted Man" made $2.7 million at #10.
Here are this week's Top 5 movies:
1. NEW: "Lucy", $44 million.
2. NEW: "Hercules", $29 million.
3. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", $16.4 million. $172 million in its 3rd week.
4. "The Purge: Anarchy", $9.9 million. Up to $51.3 million in its 2nd week.
5. "Planes: Fire & Rescue", $9.3 million. Up to $35.1 million in its 2nd week.
Aretha Franklin Was Scolded for Sitting Down to Eat at a Johnny Rockets, Because She'd Ordered Her Food as "Takeout"?
Last week, ARETHA FRANKLIN hit up a Johnny Rockets in the Niagara Falls area after a gig. And she almost engaged in FISTICUFFS with one of the employees. Here's what happened:
Aretha ordered a meal TO GO . . . but apparently, she was too hungry to wait, and once she got her food, she sat down at one of the tables inside to eat it.
A server SCOLDED Aretha for doing that, telling her she wasn't allowed to eat takeout inside. Aretha says the worker was, quote, "very rude, unprofessional and nasty." She stormed out without finishing her meal.
The owner of that Johnny Rockets says he's sorry, and called the worker a, quote, "new and very young employee." Apparently, the employee won't be fired, but was REMINDED about the "takeout policies."
Aretha is moving on. She says, quote, "Over the years I have always enjoyed a burger and cherry Coke. This experience will not stop my enjoyment of burgers and cherry Cokes, and talking to the classy and friendly people at Johnny Rockets."
Kate Upton Has Been Begging for Her "Curvy" Body All Her Life
Apparently, some people have called KATE UPTON "healthy-looking," in a way that's Kate thinking it's not really a compliment. But for the record, she LOVES her curves.
In an interview with "Elle UK", Kate says, quote, "When I first started modeling, I was a normal catalog model . . . then, I became a woman, and I was really excited about becoming a woman.
"I'm from Florida, it's all about being in bathing suits. It's a different view of beauty there. You're ugly if you don't have a curvy body. And I didn't have one, and then I got one, and thought, 'Yessss!'
"Then people say: 'Oh, wow, you're 'healthy'. And [I'm] like, 'Wait . . . what? I've been begging for this body my whole life!'"
Sarah Palin Has Her Own Internet Channel
SARAH PALIN has decided you don't get to see enough of her so she's launched her own Internet TV channel.
“Tired of media filters? Well, so am I,” the former Alaska governor posted Sunday on her Facebook page. “So let’s go rogue and launch our own member-supported channel. “
In a video on sarahpalinchannel.com
, Palin calls the new subscription-based network a “community” where she and viewers can share ideas. “I want to talk to directly to you on our channel on my terms and no need to please the powers that be,” she says, promising to go beyond soundbites and to “cut through the media’s politically correct filter.”
The new channel includes videos of Palin criticizing President Obama and his addiction to “OPM,” or other people’s money, and her explanation of why she believes he should be impeached. There’s also a blog by her daughter, Bristol, and running tallies of the national debt and how many days, hours, minutes and seconds are left in the Obama administration.
Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, will serve as the channel’s executive editor and will oversee all posted content.
Variety reports the Sarah Palin channel will cost $9.95 a month or $99.95 for a one-year subscription.
