This Just In Several Years Ago: Anderson Cooper is Gay
We've all known it pretty much all along, but it's finally official: ANDERSON COOPER is gay.
--He announced it in an open letter to fellow gay journalist ANDREW SULLIVAN. He said, quote, "The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud."
--He added that he has tried to maintain privacy about his sexual orientation partly for personal reasons. But there were also professional concerns.
--He said, quote, "Since I started as a reporter in war zones 20 years ago, I've often found myself in some very dangerous places.
--"For my safety and the safety of those I work with, I try to blend in as much as possible, and prefer to stick to my job of telling other people’s stories, and not my own."
--But he said, quote, "It's become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something . . .
--"Something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true."
--He concluded, quote, "I love, and I am loved. In my opinion, the ability to love another person is one of God's greatest gifts, and I thank God every day for enabling me to give and share love with the people in my life.
--"I still consider myself a reserved person and I hope this doesn't mean an end to a small amount of personal space. But I do think visibility is important, more important than preserving my reporter’s shield of privacy."
The Men Lurking Around Katie Holmes' New Apartment Are Her Security Team
There are reports of strange men lurking around KATIE HOLMES' new apartment, taking photos and talking on headsets. And a lot of people foolishly speculated that the Church of Scientology had put some kind of a tail on her.
--But it sounds like these guys are actually working for Katie. Once she left TOM CRUISE, Katie reportedly fired her security guard and chauffer . . . because they were actually Tom's longtime employees. These are her new security people.
--Meanwhile, a lawyer for the church has denied they're watching Katie . . . quote, "There is no truth whatsoever to the [report] that the Church of Scientology has sent anyone to follow or surveil Katie Holmes."
--Katie also fired the publicist she signed with when she married Tom, and went back to using the one she had BEFORE they got together.
--Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that Katie claims in her divorce papers that the marriage was "irretrievably broken" at least SIX MONTHS before she filed.
--Which came as a total surprise to Tom, because he had "no idea" she was going to file.
--Katie filmed a segment for "Project Runway: All Stars" yesterday, and she wasn't wearing her wedding ring.
Justin Bieber Graduated from High School Last Week
JUSTIN BIEBER graduated from high school last week. His name was among those on the program for the graduation ceremony at St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Ontario. Obviously, he didn't attend.
--Justin took electronic courses to finish his studies.
--As for why nobody knew about Justin's graduation, the superintendent of the district said, quote, "I guess if it happened quietly it's because Justin chose to keep aspects of his education quiet."
Relax, Chris Brown Is *Not* Retiring
At the BET Awards on Sunday night, CHRIS BROWN referred to his new album "Fortune" as his, quote, "last" album. (--It hits stores TODAY.)
--Some fans freaked, thinking that this meant Chris was RETIRING.
--But you can relax, he's not going anywhere. Chris' people would like to remind everyone that "LAST" has multiple meanings. His rep says he meant "last album" as in his MOST RECENT album.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" Comes Out Today . . . Here Are the Five Things You Need to Know
#1.) It's a reboot . . . yep, only five years after "Spider-Man 3". This time Peter Parker is played by Andrew Garfield, who you last saw as the best friend Mark Zuckerberg dissed in "The Social Network".
--According to "Spider-Man" co-creator Stan Lee, he's just as a good as Tobey Maguire. And here's an amusing bit of trivia for you: The movie is directed by a guy named Marc Webb. (--Get it? Spider. Web.)
#2.) One difference this time around is Peter's back-story. In the other movies and the comics, he was raised by his aunt and uncle because his parents died. And the bite that turns him into Spider-Man was just a random accident. The hidden truth about his dad's genetic research is what drives the story here, and Peter was supposedly "abandoned" in this one . . . not orphaned.
#3.) There's no Mary Jane Watson. In this version, a much younger Spider-Man hooks up with Gwen Stacy, who comic fans know as Peter's earliest love interest. She's played by Emma Stone.
--Denis Leary plays her dad . . . and he's also the cop hunting Spider-Man down. Martin Sheen and Sally Field are Uncle Ben and Aunt May, and Rhys Ifans is the villain. He was Luna Lovegood's dad in the "Harry Potter" movies.
#4.) Andrew Garfield admits that he was NAKED under his skin-tight suit. And he added, quote, "knowing that your keister is being shot from many different angles makes you very uncomfortable." (--Watch that interview here.)
--And from everything we've seen so far, it seems like Spidey spends a lot more time unmasked in this one. Maybe because Andrew Garfield is slightly more studly looking.
#5.) Stan Lee LOVES making cameos in these Marvel Comics movies, and he's in this one too. That makes 16 cameos altogether. That includes "The Avengers", the other "Spider-Man" trilogy, both "Iron Man" movies, "Thor", "Captain America", both "Hulk" movies, "Daredevil", both "Fantastic Four" movies, and the first and third "X-Men" films.
