Andy Griffith Has Died

ANDY GRIFFITH died Tuesday morning at his home in North Carolina.  He was 86.  There's no word on the cause of death.

--Griffith was best known as Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1960 to 1968 . . . then as defense attorney Ben Matlock on "Matlock" from 1986 to 1995.

--He was also a Grammy-winning gospel singer and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from George W. Bush in 2005.

--Andy Griffith is survived by his third wife Cindi, and two daughters from his first marriage.

--RON HOWARD . . . who played Andy's son Opie on "The Andy Griffith Show" . . . Tweeted, quote, "Andy Griffith:  His pursuit of excellence and the joy he took in creating served generations and shaped my life.  I'm forever grateful.  RIP Andy."

--PRESIDENT OBAMA issued a statement saying, quote, "Michelle and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Andy Griffith this morning.

--"A performer of extraordinary talent, Andy was beloved by generations of fans and revered by entertainers who followed in his footsteps.

--"He brought us characters from Sheriff Andy Taylor to Ben Matlock, and in the process, warmed the hearts of Americans everywhere.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy's family."

--This is the second "Andy Griffith Show" death this year.  GEORGE LINDSEY, who played Goober, passed on in May.

--DON KNOTTS . . . who played Andy's deputy Barney Fife, died in 2006.

--As far as major cast members go, there are three left.  There's Ron Howard, obviously.

--Then we've got JIM NABORS, who played Gomer Pyle for the first few seasons before Gomer joined the Marines and got his own spin-off.  He's 82.

--And finally, there's BETTY LYNN, who's 85.  She played Barney's girlfriend Thelma Lou.

Tom Cruise is Hollywood's Highest-Paid Actor

I guess it's been a good news / bad news week for TOM CRUISE.  Yes, he's losing a wife and turning 50, but he's got A BOATLOAD OF CASH.

--Tom tops this year's Forbes.com survey of Hollywood's Highest-Paid Actors.  Over the past year, Tom has banked $75 MILLION.

--Despite the box office failure of "Rock of Ages", Tom had the fourth "Mission Impossible" to fall back on.  It made $700 million worldwide, and Tom got a nice cut of the profits.

--Here's how well Tom did this past year:  He made TWICE AS MUCH as the guys who are tied for second place.  Tom is $38 million ahead of LEONARDO DICAPRIO and ADAM SANDLER, who tied for second with $37 million.

#1.)  Tom Cruise,  $75 million

#2.)  (tie)  Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler,  $37 million

#4.)  Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson,  $36 million

#5.)  Ben Stiller,  $33 million

#6.)  (three-way tie)  Sacha Baron CohenJohnny Depp and Will Smith,  $30 million

#9.)  Mark Wahlberg,  $27 million

#10.)  (tie)  "Twilight" studs Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson,  $26.5 million

Katie Holmes Speaks . . . But Just Barely

KATIE HOLMES spoke to the media yesterday, for the first time since her split with TOM CRUISE.  But just barely.

--Katie was shopping at a Whole Foods in New York City with her daughter Suri, when a reporter from the "New York Daily News"asked how she's doing.  She said, quote, "I'm all right.  Thank you."

Will Katie Holmes Get Nothing in the Divorce?

If this is true, then KATIE HOLMES must have REALLY wanted out:

--TMZ claims that the prenup she signed when she married TOM CRUISE is, quote, "long, tight and stacked in Tom's favor."  And it states that she walks away with what she had when she came into the marriage.

--Katie may challenge the prenup, but either way a source says, quote, "Money is not that important to her.  She makes plenty on her own."

--It's more than likely, however, that Katie will get child support.  And that probably won't be small potatoes.

There STILL Might Be a "Ghostbusters 3"

I can't believe we're still talking about this, but there actually still might be a "Ghostbusters 3".

--A few weeks ago on "Letterman", stubborn hold-out BILL MURRAY kept the door open, saying he'd be interested if the script was as brilliant as the original.

--With that in mind, DAN AYKROYD has announced that he's got a new team of writers working on the script.  He said, quote, "It's got to be perfect.  That's the whole thing.  There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect.  So that's what we're up to now."

Are There Pictures of Bruce and Demi's Daughter Tallulah Naked and Smoking a Joint?

Here's a nude photo scandal to keep an eye on:  There's talk that someone is shopping pictures of TALLULAH WILLIS . . . the 18-year-old daughter of BRUCE WILLIS and DEMI MOORE . . . topless and smoking a joint.

--Nobody seems to have seen them yet, so the legitimacy of this rumor is still suspect.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" Has Broken a Record for a Tuesday Opening

"The Amazing Spider-Man" has already broken its first record:  It had the biggest haul for a Tuesday opening ever . . . taking in $35 million.

--The previous record was set by "Transformers", with $27.9 million.
