Miley Cyrus Had a Homeless Guy Accept Her "VMA" Award Because of the Backlash She Got Last Year

MILEY CYRUS had a young homeless dude named Jesse accept her Video of the Year award at the "MTV Video Music Awards" on Sunday . . . at least partially because of the backlash she got after her performance with ROBIN THICKE at last year's show.

In a radio interview yesterday, Miley said, quote, "I just didn't realize my platform, I didn't realize my power.  I really realized it after the'VMAs' [last year] . . . no matter what I do, there's no winning or losing, it's just going to be talked about.

"So what do I want them to talk about? . . . Because I don't think what I was trying to say is what happened the year before.  The reason it was so important at the 'VMAs' is because it’s for young people.

"Jesse is my same age and that's what this show is for.  I think people need to see this . . . at least, I know I did after last year . . . to remember what matters."

Emmy Highlights and Memorable Moments

"Breaking Bad" went out in style last night, capturing six Emmys for its final season . . . but that wasn't enough to go out with the MOST Emmys of the night.  That honor went to"Sherlock".  I was surprised and super excited about this. I thought that it was just me, my husband and few other friends who we demanded watch this show that even knew about it!

"Sherlock:  His Last Vow", snagged seven Emmys, including Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for BENEDICT CUMBERBATCHMARTIN FREEMAN, also snagged the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie and Steven Moffat, for Best Writing for a Miniseries, Movie, or a Dramatic Special. The show also won a bunch of Creative Emmy awards that weren't announced on the show last night.

"Modern Family" won Outstanding Comedy Series for the fifth straight year, and TY BURRELL won for Supporting Actor in a Comedy for the second time since 2011.

JIM PARSONS won his fourth Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy for "The Big Bang Theory" . . . while JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS won the female equivalent for "Veep".

And JULIANNA MARGULIES won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for "The Good Wife".  She also won it in 2010.

GWEN STEFANI announced a win for "The Colbert Report" as the Best Variety, Music, or Comedy Series.  But she mispronounced it "The Col-BOAR Report".  But it was nowhere near as bad as John Travolta's "Adele Dazeem" Oscar moment.

Jennifer Lopez Got Skittles from Casper Smart at the "VMAs"

JENNIFER LOPEZ and CASPER SMART both attended the "VMAs" Sunday night, but the official word is they weren't together.  Casper was supposedly there to support NICKI MINAJ, because he did some choreography for her.

But Casper WAS seated right in front of J-Lo, and at one point he even turned around to pour some SKITTLES into her hand. Sharing Skittles is a pretty big deal. That might point to a reconcilation.

The Highest-Paid Male TV Actors

"Forbes" has put together their annual list of "The Highest-Paid Male TV Actors" . . . and for the THIRD year in a row, "Two and a Half Men" star ASHTON KUTCHER is #1.  He's raking in $26 million over the past year.

His co-star JON CRYER is second with $19 million . . . along with "NCIS" star MARK HARMON who made the same amount.  Interestingly enough, nine of the Top 15 actors are or were on CBS shows.

Here's the complete Top 15:

1.  Ashton Kutcher"Two and a Half Men", $26 million

2.  A tie between Jon Cryer of "Two and a Half Men" and Mark Harmon of "NCIS", with $19 million each.

4.  Neil Patrick Harris"How I Met Your Mother", $18 million

5.  A tie between Patrick Dempsey of "Grey's Anatomy" and Kevin Spacey of Netflix's "House of Cards", with $16 million each.

7.  Tim Allen"Last Man Standing", $15 million

8.  Simon Baker"The Mentalist", $13 million

9.  Jim Parsons"The Big Bang Theory", $12 million

10.  A tie between Jason Segel from "How I Met Your Mother" and Johnny Galecki of "The Big Bang Theory", with $11 million each.

12.  A THREE-WAY tie between Jon Hamm of "Mad Men"Charlie Sheen of "Anger Management", and Josh Radnor of "How I Met Your Mother", with $10 million apiece.

15.  Bryan Cranston"Breaking Bad", $8 million

The numbers were taken from June of last year up through this past June . . . so the big salary bumps for the "Big Bang Theory" stars were NOT included, which is why they're kind of low on the list.  Next year will be a different story.

As usual, not ALL of this money came from the actors' TV salaries.  It includes movie roles and endorsement deals as well.  So, Tim Allen's Vegas stand-up money is also a part of his overall take.
