Matchbox Twenty Were Hammered on Wine While Recording Their New Album
MATCHBOX TWENTY recorded their new album "North" while living together in Nashville . . . but initially, the process kept getting derailed by the massive amounts of WINE they were consuming.
--Singer ROB THOMAS says, quote, "We spent, like $40,000 . . . just on the wine." He adds, quote, "We'd break for dinner and things would just go south. We would think it was awesome, everything we were doing was awesome . . .
--"And we'd come back in and we would meet some new band out in the middle of Nashville and bring them back to the studio . . . and play all this crap. I know they walked away going, 'Dude, the new Matchbox Twenty record is going to suck!'"
--The band says they recorded "more than 60 songs" before selecting the final tracks for the album . . . and it doesn't sound like much of the material from the early, drunken sessions made the cut.
Olympic Snowboarder Shaun White Was Arrested for Public Intoxication in Nashville
Olympic snowboarder SHAUN WHITE was arrested for public intoxication in Nashville over the weekend.
--Police were called to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at about 2:00 A.M., after White trashed the phone in his room and pulled a fire alarm, causing the hotel to be evacuated.
--White then tried to flee the hotel and take off in a taxi, but a "concerned citizen" actually blocked him from getting into the cab. So White KICKED him and ran off.
--But the guy followed him. The two collided, and Shaun hit a fence, opening a nasty wound on the back of his head. Police said he appeared to be extremely intoxicated and reeked of alcohol.
--White was taken straight to the hospital, where he was booked for vandalism and public intoxication. After he was treated for his wound, he was released on his own recognizance.

Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj Say They Aren't Feuding . . . Yet
MARIAH CAREY and NICKI MINAJ began working together on "American Idol" on Sunday . . . and TMZ claims they were already "at each other's throats."
--Supposedly, they kept interrupting each other while critiquing contestants, and a "source" says, quote, "These girls just don't like each other."
--But yesterday, Mariah said they haven't had time to hate each other. She joked, quote, "How can we feud in two days? I think a feud takes a little longer to happen." And Nicki added, quote, "[We're] getting along wonderfully, darling."
--For what it's worth, last month, TMZ claimed Mariah "hung up the phone" when she was first told Nicki was the top candidate to be a judge, because Mariah wanted to be the only woman on the panel, and didn't want to be overshadowed by Nicki.
Kelly Clarkson Will Record More Country Music . . . But Don't Expect Her to Abandon Pop
KELLY CLARKSON is always getting asked if she plans to switch from pop to country. And it picked up steam earlier this month when she was nominated for a CMA Best Female Vocalist award. Well, Kelly's answer is that she's sticking with both.
--She says, quote, "I think we're going to try and do (some) songs just for country music, and keep doing stuff for pop, as well. For me, if it's a great song, let's just cut it, and not worry about where it lands. Whatever it ends up sounding like, that's great.
--"As long as it's a natural thing, and it's something I love, I'm totally cool with doing it."
--Kelly's been getting a lot of love from country fans lately . . . but that won't change her course. She says, quote, "I have a great career. I never want to compromise my career just to get more fans. I think that's cheesy, and I think it's transparent, as well."
