In the years of doing the Daily Dilemma, Kelly McKay has come across a lot of great organizations that have offered to help our listeners in need. We wanted to post these in case they may come in handy to you or someone you know that is dealing with a similar problem. IN A CAR ACCIDENT?
Make sure to do your research when dealing with your insurance company.
1.) Find out what the Kelly Blue Book value of your car is, at kellybluebook.com.
2.) Make sure you know which options you have in your vehicle, and what the condition your vehicle was in before the accident, because that can add value to your settlement.
3.) Carefully look over your insurance policy before talking with your agent, so you know your rights and responsibilities.
4.) If you're upside down, with regards to what you owe and what your vehicle is worth, ask your agent about exchange of collateral, which could allow you to get another vehicle and maintain the same payment on your other loan.
5.) Find out about getting a salvage title on your vehicle, so you can keep it and get it repaired. BUT, if you go that route, make sure your company will offer full coverage on the vehicle afterwards. Otherwise, you'll be up the creek!
6.) Go to www.in.gov/idoi if you feel that your insurance company isn't doing right by you.

From The 3/22 Daily Dilemma, regarding testing in school:A mother had written in about her son, who is now in High School but has struggled with learning since Elementary School. Here's some of the information listeners shared with her:
1.) Write a letter to the school counselor, or special education coordinator, (copy it to the Principal, School Administrator, and teacher) and request they test your child. They legally have to complete the testing within 60 school days. Once they test him they'll have a meeting with you to discuss his I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan). For example: They may find that they need to read all of his tests to him, instead of having him take them in the usual way.
2.) Also, your insurance may cover an exam with a neuropsychologist. The exam is non-invasive and takes a couple of hours. The test will determine how your son's brain works. For example: Does he digest information in large chunks, or in little pieces at a time? This information would be very helpful to his teachers.
3.) Contact the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana. They'll do their own evaluation, of your child, and they offer tutoring on a sliding scale. 317-545-5451

WHAT IS YOUR CHILD LISTENING TO?
I saw an article on Yahoo news that really caught my attention and I wanted to share with parents. The article was about a study into teen listening habits and how their music relates to their sexual activity. Read it for yourself and see if you agree!
CHICAGO - Teens whose iPods are full of music with raunchy, sexual lyrics start having sex sooner than those who prefer other songs, a study found. Whether it's hip-hop, rap, pop or rock, much of popular music aimed at teens contains sexual overtones. Its influence on their behavior appears to depend on how the sex is portrayed, researchers found.Songs depicting men as "sex-driven studs," women as sex objects and with explicit references to sex acts are more likely to trigger early sexual behavior than those where sexual references are more veiled and relationships appear more committed, the study found.
Teens who said they listened to lots of music with degrading sexual messages were almost twice as likely to start having intercourse or other sexual activities within the following two years as were teens who listened to little or no sexually degrading music. Among heavy listeners, 51 percent started having sex within two years, versus 29 percent of those who said they listened to little or no sexually degrading music.
The study, based on telephone interviews with 1,461 participants aged 12 to 17, appears in the August issue of Pediatrics, being released Monday. Most participants were virgins when they were first questioned in 2001. Follow-up interviews were done in 2002 and 2004 to see if music choice had influenced subsequent behavior.
