January 2021 just got a whole lot better with the release of Why Don’t We’s much anticipated album, The Good Times And The Bad Ones. With 10 new tracks that the boys have written themselves, a first for them, this record takes us into a whole new era of Why Don’t We. Their sophomore album takes us on a falling in love roller coaster ride and I’m so here for it! Keep reading for a breakdown of each song from TGTATBO.

Fallin’ (Adrenaline)

After a 9 month hiatus, the boys came back with a punch! “Fallin'” was their first single off their new album and it makes total sense as the opening track to the album. The music video is spectacular, they performed it at our 2020 Jingle Jam, and with over 45 million streams alone on Spotify, lots of fans (including myself) are fallin for this track!

Slow Down

Slow Down easily could’ve been our 2020 anthem with the message that we just need to slow down and enjoy life as it’s happening, not as it should be or what will happen in the future. It’s a great reminder to just live in the present moment and take in the beauty of life.

Lotus Inn

The night this single dropped, I stayed up until midnight to listen to it. Now if you know me, you know I’m a grandma and literally go to bed at 10pm every night but I made an exception this time. Though I was totally out of it the whole next day, I couldn’t get this song out of my head. From Daniel’s raspy voice to Jonah’s high hitting notes, this song is a MAJOR bop! The name of the song should be familiar if you’ve read the Percy Jackson novels, as it was the inspiration for the title. Jonah told PopBuzz “I grew up reading those books. It’s a place where they can get stuck their whole lives. We wanted to write a song about being in that place and time, never wanting the night to end.”

Be Myself

“Why do I try to find my validation in what everybody’s sayin” has to be my favorite lyric from this track. “Be Myself” is all about wanting to be free of anxiety, what others think of you, and just be who you are and nothing else.

Love Song

Written by Daniel, this song literally is just the sweetest love song. He sings “I wrote another love song baby about you / I’ve written one for every second without you” and all I can think is who is this about?? Me?? A girl can dream ya know.

Grey

The piano and the harmonies are so beautiful and then you get to the pre-chorus and BAM the tears hit! Billboard asked Zach Herron what his favorite track was on the album and he said “‘Grey.’ This song has been through a lot and it feels great to finally be able to put it into the world. The lyrics are so well written, and I relate to it so much.”

For You

Now here’s the pop influence we all know and love! The boys also told PopBuzz that this song came about after they watched Travis Scott’s Astroworld documentary and from listening to Lennon Stella and The Chainsmokers track, ‘Takeaway.’

I’ll Be Okay

Now we know where the title of the album came from! In the pre-chorus, Zach sings “We did it for the hell of it / We did it for the good times and the bad ones / We didn’t think about what shit might happen.”

Look At Me

At 1 minute and 57 seconds, this is definitely the shortest song on the album. The sound is a bit dark for the boys, especially that scream at the beginning, but it’s catchy!

Stay

Jonah told a bit about the making of this song to PopBuzz saying “‘Stay’ has gone through 3 or 4 different songs. It started out as a song called ‘Lemonade Candy’, then it turned into one called ‘Why Should I Still Love You’, but the pre-chorus stayed the same throughout the whole time.”
