With things like the pandemic and the war between Ukraine and Russia, we could all use a little light — emphasis on the little. There’s a group of kindergarteners in California who just started a special new hotline anyone can call to hear encouraging words and positivity from small kiddos.

When you call 707-998-8410, you’ll hear this:

If you’re feeling mad, frustrated or nervous, press 1. If you need words of encouragement and life advice, press 2. If you need a pep talk from kindergartners, press 3. If you need to hear kids laughing with delight, press 4. For encouragement in Spanish, press 5.

According to NPR, the idea came from their teachers who were working on using art as a social practice. They were inspired by the positive attitudes of the kids despite the obstacles of growing up in times like these.

Maybe I’m soft, but when I called the number, I cried a little bit.
