You ever watch an old movie and think to yourself, “WTF?” A lot of things simply don’t age well and even Disney is guilty of putting out some content that today people realize wasn’t cool at all. And now it’s owning up to the fact that many of its classics contain racist depictions and attitudes and stereotyping. According to Daily Mail, Disney is now putting warnings ahead of films like Peter Pan, Aristocats, Dumbo, and Jungle Book.

The company isn’t looking to excuse the past films completely but rather address it head on. In a message to the public, Disney says,

“As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, we are in the process of reviewing our library and adding advisories to content that includes negative depictions or mistreatment of people or cultures. Rather than removing this content, we see an opportunity to spark conversation and open dialogue on history that affects us all. We also want to acknowledge that some communities have been erased or forgotten altogether, and we’re committed to giving voice to their stories as well.”

They go so far as to actually explain where they were wrong in certain movies.

Instead of some kind of cover-up, they’re saying what went down wasn’t cool and it seems like they’re opening up the conversation about. What are your thoughts?
