Beyoncé Says She Did Get Right Said Fred’s Okay for “Alien Superstar”

Beyoncé may have walked back Kelis’ “Milkshake” sample, but she’s holding firm on using Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy”.

Last week Right Said Fred claimed Beyoncé didn’t ask their permission before using “I’m Too Sexy” in her “Alien Superstar” track saying, “Normally the artist approaches us but Beyoncé didn’t because she is such an arrogant person she just had probably thought ‘come and get me’ so we heard about it after the fact when you did.”

Well, Beyoncé begs to differ. From Queen Bey herself, “Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album.”

She said her team asked for permission in May, received it in June, and the duo was paid for the usage in August. She also said they received a co-writer credit, which was also on their list of complaints.

Right Said Fred said last week it was best to just “let it go”; we’ll see if that stance holds now that we’ve heard from Beyoncé.
